As an example, when everyone thinks 10 Heavenly passages as something of a fairytale, he not only succeeded but even bloody merged them all together to have a more powerful effect.

If you see learning and cultivating new methods as a form of reliance on outside powers, then literally every Chinese cultivator does that. Even Buddha supposedly learned all kinds of cultivation methods before he achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.

Btw, I believe the translation is inaccurate as this so-called “outside powers” actually refers to “external boost” like body armours that automatically up one’s level. To be fair, SH also wears a body armour but he only uses that when he fights people who are a few levels higher than him. Otherwise he won’t stand a chance. If you recall, SH didn’t even wear his armour during the big battle with his cousin because he wanted to fight fairly.
